Telstra Woolloongabba exchange

Telstra’s premium exchange in the Brisbane area the Woollongabba installation is the heart of Telstra’s data and Telephone network for Brisbane.

Telstra required a large high reliability emergency generating plant which could provide power if a mains power failure occurred. The equipment had to be capable of synchronising with the grid to ensure immediate changeover between the grid and the plant if necessary.

Removal of the existing 3 off MV Diesel Generators and sundries was also necessary to complete the project.

TSF supplied and installed 3 off 2.6MVA Standby Diesel Generators that fully cover Telstra’s critical load at the site and installed the control system for the 3 generators giving Telstra an N+1 rating, providing a major upgrade to the existing Electrical Reticulation.

Other elements of this project included supply and installation of the following components:
  • Transformers
  • Silencers and V-Pak Radiators mounted on the roof
  • Diesel exhausts silencers and discharge pipe work.
  • High voltage switchboards
  • Generator control system and SCADA
  • Generator control functionality includes island mode operation (single and double mode) and peak lopping
