Christmas Island Power Station

Fuel Installation Upgrade

The client

Christmas Island Power Station (CIPA) generates and distributes power on Christmas Island (Indian Ocean), located 2600 km north of Perth and 360km south of Jakarta.

Contract requirements

T.S.F. was awarded the contract to supply and install five 110,00 litre aboveground horizontal cylindrical fuel storage tanks and associated equipment comprising platforms and walkways.

Four of the tanks are for medium fuel storage and one is distillate. Included are transfer pumps with associated piping and valving to connect the new storage tanks to the existing MFO settling tank.

T.S.F. carried out civil works associated with the fuel installation including the compound, foundations, access roads and drainage.

The Storm Water Facility installed included an automatic skimmer, baffles, trash rack and a plate separator to remove any oil from contaminated rainwater. This facility is an important part of the integrated environmental design of the Power Station.

Ultrasonic tank level transmitters are installed on each tank and send signals from the bulk tanks to the SCADA screen installed by T.S.F. where the level of each tank is displayed in litres.
