The Client

The Children's Hospital located in
western Sydney cares for over 18,000 inpatients and 200,000 outpatients each year. It is a centre for research into children's health and provides specialist treatment including complex infant surgery.

Contract requirements

The hospital required a 100% reliable emergency generating plant which could provide power if a mains power failure occurred. The equipment had to be capable of synchronising with the council's grid to ensure immediate changeover between the grid and the plant if necessary.

T.S.F. supplied and installed two 1MVA standby generators that now provide about a third of the hospital's estimated maximum demand.

TSF supplied and installed:

• 2 x 1MVA turbo-charged Dorman model 12SETCR diesel engines coupled to 2 x HC1634K Stamford generators
• Diesel generator standby switchboard High voltage circuit breaker panel
• Automatic synchronising equipment of soft transfer with local authority Circulating water pumps and pipework
• Fuel transfer storage system including 40,000 litre underground bulk fuel tank
• Diesel exhaust silencers and discharge pipework.
